One a/c BZ 514 overshot base at the time of landing from this mission and crashed into the sea P/O Emmett and crew were lost.
Operation Records Book (RAF Form 540): The squadron unfortunately lost a crew when P/O Emmett returning from his first operation overshot on landing. He tried to go round again but for some unknown reasons failed to going height crashed into the sea. (illegg) of the effort of the "Air Sea Rescue Service" Wing Commander Thompson DFC who flew around the ship dropping flares nothing was to be found but an empty dinghy..

Il Bombardiere era decollato da Falconara alle 19,45 del 28 dicembre per una ricognizione armata ed interdizione notturna sull'area di Verona, vicenza, Nervesa e Casarza. Secondo quanto si evince dalla lettura dei diari operativi l'aereo arrivò troppo lungo sulla pista durante l'atterraggio e non riuscì a riprendere quota, precipitando in mare. A nulla valsero i tentativi di soccorso e ricerca, condotti alla luce provocata da alcuni aerei che levatisi in volo spararono razzi illuminanti sul mare. Tempo dopo fu recuperato il corpo senza vita del Sgt. Flood, sepolto all'Ancona War Cemetery. I restanti membri dell'equipaggio sono ricordati al Malta Memorial.
